  WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT:
  • Ensures accurate, compliant, and timely payroll for employees — essential for morale, retention, and compliance.
  • Helps maintain trust with internal stakeholders (Finance, HR, Legal) and external regulatory bodies.
  • Supports financial reporting and audits; the data you provide is foundational to cost control and operational budgeting.
  • Impacts the efficiency of payroll operations and contributes to identifying process improvement or automation opportunities.
  • Plays a key role during periods of growth, transformation, or change (new locations, regulatory shifts, system implementations) by ensuring payroll scales appropriately.
 
THE BACKGROUND THAT FITS:
  • Strong experience in payroll processing for multi-state or multinational organizations; familiarity with US payroll laws and perhaps global payroll regulations.
  • Proficiency with payroll/HRIS systems: Workday, payroll tax compliance, deductions, benefits, and reconciliations.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to manage deadlines and resolve discrepancies.
  • Good communication skills: able to translate payroll data, explain issues to non-technical partners, collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to adapt to change (audits, process changes, regulation updates) and to implement improvements.
  • Education in accounting, finance, HR, or a related field; payroll certification (CPP, PTP, or equivalent) is a plus.
