SOURCING SPECIALIST II

THE TEAM YOU WILL BE JOINING

  • Join the Supply Chain organization of a large, established energy and utilities company supporting major capital projects, plant operations, and renewable and regulated energy initiatives.

  • Partner closely with Project Managers, engineering teams, plant stakeholders, Supply Chain leadership, Legal, and external suppliers.

  • Support strategic sourcing initiatives involving high-value materials, engineered equipment, labor, and services.

  • Lead moderate-to-complex competitive sourcing events and help develop sourcing strategies across regional and enterprise-wide initiatives.

  • Work in a highly visible sourcing environment where you will have meaningful ownership over supplier selection, negotiations, contracting, and post-award supplier management.

LOCATION

  • Charlotte, NC – Hybrid

  • Onsite approximately 3 days per week following the onboarding period.

  • Candidates should live within a reasonable daily commute of the Charlotte office.

WHAT THEY OFFER YOU

  • Opportunity to lead moderate-to-complex competitive sourcing events from strategy through contract award.

  • Direct involvement in sourcing and negotiating complex, high-value equipment, materials, and services.

  • Ownership of RFP/RFQ development, supplier evaluation, cost modeling, Total Cost of Ownership analysis, negotiations, and award recommendations.

  • Exposure to major capital projects and plant operations within the energy and utilities industry.

  • Opportunity to negotiate both commercial and contractual terms and conditions rather than focusing solely on pricing.

  • Work with Master Service Agreements, Alliance Agreements, purchase order contracts, and category management initiatives.

  • Ability to independently manage complex sourcing projects while partnering with senior internal stakeholders and supplier leadership.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead moderate-to-complex competitive sourcing events from initial strategy development through supplier selection, negotiation, and contract award.

  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to develop sourcing strategies for complex, high-value materials, engineered equipment, labor, and services.

  • Develop and execute RFPs, RFQs, and other competitive bid events, including defining sourcing strategy and evaluating supplier responses.

  • Build and evaluate Total Cost of Ownership analyses, cost models, financial comparisons, and supplier proposals to support sourcing decisions.

  • Lead supplier negotiations focused on pricing, commercial requirements, and contractual terms and conditions.

  • Participate directly in contract review and redlining, including areas such as limitation of liability, indemnification, warranties, insurance requirements, termination rights, and performance guarantees.

  • Develop supplier award recommendations based on cost, risk, technical requirements, commercial terms, and overall business value.

  • Engage directly with middle and senior-level supplier and manufacturer leadership throughout sourcing and negotiation processes.

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, cost avoidance, process improvements, and greater supply-chain efficiency.

  • Manage strategic supplier relationships and serve as a key point of contact between suppliers and internal business partners.

  • Support post-award supplier activities, including contract administration, settlements, claims, disputes, amendments, change orders, pricing changes, and purchase order maintenance.

  • Support sourcing and contracting activities associated with capital projects, plant operations, outages, and equipment purchases.

  • Manage and support Master Service Agreements, Alliance Agreements, purchase order contracts, and category strategies.

  • Stay informed on assigned commodities, supply markets, supplier capabilities, diversity opportunities, and market conditions that could impact future procurement.

  • Participate in change-management efforts to successfully implement sourcing strategies across the organization.

  • Provide guidance, assistance, and cross-training to other sourcing and procurement team members.

THE BACKGROUND THAT FITS

  • Bachelor’s degree with approximately 5–10 years of related Supply Chain, Strategic Sourcing, Procurement, or Contracting experience.

  • Demonstrated experience personally leading moderate-to-complex sourcing events from start to finish.

  • Strong experience developing sourcing strategies and leading RFP/RFQ processes, supplier evaluations, negotiations, and award recommendations.

  • Experience developing Total Cost of Ownership analyses and cost models to evaluate sourcing decisions.

  • Strong contract negotiation experience, including direct involvement with contract language, terms and conditions, and redlines.

  • Experience independently managing sourcing strategies, supplier negotiations, and complex procurement initiatives.

  • Strong business and financial acumen with demonstrated cost and financial analysis capabilities.

  • Strong Microsoft Word skills, particularly working with contract documents, tracked changes, and redlines.

  • Excellent planning, organization, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.

HIGHLY PREFERRED

  • Experience supporting energy, utilities, power generation, power plants, major capital projects, or plant outages.

  • Experience sourcing engineered equipment, plant equipment, materials, labor, and professional or technical services.

  • Working knowledge of electric utility or power plant operations and equipment.

  • Experience with strategic sourcing, category management, contract management, Master Service Agreements, and Alliance Agreements.

  • Experience with e-sourcing and ERP/procurement platforms such as PowerAdvocate, Maximo, or similar systems.

  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), or similar Supply Chain certification.

WHAT WILL SET YOU APART

  • You have personally owned complex sourcing events rather than primarily processing purchase orders, requisitions, or quotes.

  • You can clearly explain how you developed a sourcing strategy, managed stakeholders, evaluated suppliers, negotiated agreements, and made an award recommendation.

  • You are comfortable negotiating contractual risk and legal/commercial terms, not just pricing and payment terms.

  • You have hands-on experience building cost models and Total Cost of Ownership analyses to drive supplier selection.

  • You are comfortable taking ownership of sourcing decisions and supplier discussions while working independently on complex projects.
