WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Own the payroll expense accounting process across multiple business units and legal entities
- Analyze payroll trends, variances, and accruals, partnering with FP&A, HR, and business operators to understand underlying drivers
- Develop cost allocation models to align payroll costs to business functions, departments, or revenue streams
- Collaborate with FP&A on forecast accuracy and monthly close related to payroll and labor-related expenses
- Support integration of acquired businesses by aligning payroll accounting policies, systems, and cost centers
- Investigate and document complex accounting matters related to compensation, benefits, bonuses, and incentive programs
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory guidelines
- Work with external auditors and internal stakeholders on audit requests related to payroll and labor expenses
- Contribute to the monthly and quarterly close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
- Identify process improvement opportunities and lead initiatives to streamline payroll accounting workflows
- Support Workday Payroll and Finance integrations, enhancements, and reconciliations
BACKGROUND THAT FITS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business; CPA preferred
- 2–4 years of relevant experience, ideally in payroll accounting, operations finance, or public accounting
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP with a specific focus on compensation and payroll expense treatment
- Experience with ERP systems; Workday experience is a strong plus
- Excellent analytical and Excel skills with the ability to tell a story with numbers
- Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced, PE-backed environment
- High attention to detail with strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Prior experience in insurance, brokerage, or multi-entity/multi-location environments is preferred
