WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Process high-volume Canadian payrolls accurately and on time, including weekly and biweekly pay groups for over 2,000 employees
  • Manage payroll for multiple provinces, ensuring compliance with Canadian labor laws and regulations, including prevailing wage requirements
  • Handle daily off-cycle payroll adjustments such as terminations, retroactive pay, and corrections to maintain payroll accuracy
  • Collaborate with the payroll team to support smooth operations and timely completion of all payroll cycles
  • Respond promptly to payroll inquiries from management, HR, and employees, providing clear and accurate information
  • Utilize Workday or other payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Ultimate Software) to process payroll data efficiently
  • Assist with understanding and applying union agreements and collective bargaining provisions as needed, with training provided
  • Maintain detailed records and audit payroll transactions to ensure compliance and accuracy within a fast-paced, hybrid work environment
 
THE BACKGROUND THAT FITS:
  • Minimum of 3 years of payroll experience with a strong focus on Canadian payroll processing in a high-volume environment (2,000+ employees)
  • Experience managing multiple payroll schedules, including weekly and biweekly payrolls
  • Knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations, provincial differences, and prevailing wage requirements; union payroll experience is a plus but can be taught
  • Familiarity with Workday preferred; experience with other payroll systems such as ADP, PeopleSoft, or similar ERPs is also valued
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax compliance and deductions specific to Canadian payroll
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and respond to payroll inquiries
  • Highly detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage heavy daily payroll processing in a fast-paced, hybrid work environment
