Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end multi-state, biweekly payroll processing at scale, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency across pay groups and locations.
  • Act as the primary payroll point person for the business—own escalations, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure a strong employee experience.
  • Drive payroll compliance with a heavy focus on taxes, filings, W-2s, and audit readiness (including supporting payroll tax audits).
  • Manage and develop a team of three payroll professionals, providing oversight, coaching, and quality control while remaining hands-on.
  • Partner cross-functionally (HR/Finance) to strengthen processes, reporting, controls, and system integrity, including support of integrations and data accuracy within the payroll platform.
 
Requirements
  • 5+ years of professional experience with at least 2+ years of proven people leadership in payroll (with the ability to lead while staying operationally involved).
  • Demonstrated experience running high-volume payroll for 1,500+ employees (multi-state, biweekly).
  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax compliance, audits, and related reporting (must be comfortable owning this space).
  • ADP Workforce Now experience is required (must be able to step in with minimal ramp time).
  • Bonus points for experience with prevailing wage/certified payroll, government contract environments, union payroll exposure, and/or HRIS implementation/integration that shows depth across both front-end and back-end payroll operations.
  • Team-player mentality with a track record of partnering effectively with cross-functional teams, with a collaborative approach.
